Privacy Policy

Your privacy matters to us. This page explains exactly what data StepSolvers collects, how it's used, and your rights. The short version: we collect almost nothing, and we never sell your data.

1. What We Collect

StepSolvers is a fully static website. All calculations run entirely in your browser, no data is ever sent to our servers. We do not require registration, login, or any personally identifiable information to use any of our tools.

We use Google Analytics 4 to understand which pages are visited and how people find StepSolvers. It runs only if you accept the cookie banner. When it runs, it sets cookies (named _ga and _ga_ followed by an ID) and collects usage data such as the pages you view, your approximate location (country and region), your device and browser type, and how you arrived at the site. It never receives the numbers you type into a calculator. If you reject the banner, Google Analytics does not load.

As with every website, our hosting provider and the content delivery network that serves code libraries to your browser (see Section 4) receive standard technical data when your browser requests a file: your IP address, browser type, device type, and the page requested. We do not use this data to identify you.

We never collect your calculation inputs. Every calculation runs locally in your browser and the numbers you enter are never transmitted to us or to any third party. We do not collect names or email addresses unless you voluntarily submit them via our contact form. Advertising is the one exception: if you accept the cookie banner, Google AdSense and its partners may collect data about your visit as described in Sections 3 and 4 below. That data comes from your browser, not from anything you type into a calculator.

2. Contact Form

If you use our Contact page, we receive the name, email address, and message you submit. This information is used solely to respond to your enquiry and is not added to any mailing list, sold, or shared with anyone other than the form service that delivers it to our inbox. That service is FormSubmit (formsubmit.co), which processes your submission under its own privacy policy.

3. Cookies

StepSolvers itself does not set cookies of its own. It does store a few items in your browser's local storage, which stays on your device and is never sent to us: your cookie banner choice (so we do not ask you again) and, on the Pythagorean Theorem Calculator only, your recent calculation history and your light or dark theme choice. If you accept the cookie banner, Google Analytics also sets its own cookies (_ga and _ga_ followed by an ID), which can last up to two years. You can change your choice at any time with the Cookie settings link in the footer, and you can clear stored items through your browser settings.

StepSolvers shows advertising through Google AdSense. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website or other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to our site and/or other sites on the Internet. These include the DoubleClick advertising cookie (also known as the DART cookie) and similar identifiers. Their names and lifetimes are set by Google, and typically range from a few days to about two years. You can read how Google uses them at policies.google.com/technologies/ads.

Ads and your cookie choice. Advertising scripts load only after you accept the cookie banner. If you reject it, no advertising script is loaded and no ad cookies are set by this site. If you change your mind, use the Cookie settings link in the footer at any time.

You may opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings. Alternatively, you can opt out of a third-party vendor's use of cookies for personalised advertising by visiting www.aboutads.info/choices (in Europe, www.youronlinechoices.eu). Turning personalised ads off in Google Ads Settings means Google shows you ads that are not based on your browsing history. It does not stop ads from appearing.

You can also block or delete cookies at any time through your browser settings. Blocking cookies will not prevent you from using any calculator on this site, since all calculations run locally in your browser.

4. Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services, each with their own privacy policies:

Every visitor, including those in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, and Switzerland, is shown a consent notice before any non-essential or advertising cookies are set, and can withdraw or change that consent at any time using the Cookie settings link in the footer. We do not show advertising to visitors who have not accepted.

5. Data Retention

We hold very little data of our own. Contact form submissions are kept only as long as necessary to resolve your enquiry. Google Analytics data is kept for the retention period configured in our Google Analytics account (14 months or less). Data collected by Google AdSense and other advertising vendors is retained according to their own policies, linked in Section 4, and is not available to us in a form that identifies you.

6. Your Rights

If you are in the European Economic Area (EEA), you have rights under GDPR including the right to access, correct, or delete any personal data we hold. Since we hold almost none, in practice this means you can request deletion of any contact form submission you sent us.

7. US State Privacy Rights

Residents of California and of other US states with privacy laws may have the right to know what personal information a business holds about them, to ask for it to be corrected or deleted, and to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information for targeted advertising. We do not sell personal information. Because we hold almost none, most requests will concern a contact form message: email stepsolvers@gmail.com and we will respond within the time the law requires. You can opt out of personalised ads using the links in Section 3.

8. Children's Privacy

StepSolvers is a general-audience educational site and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If a child has sent us a message through the contact form, a parent or guardian can email us and we will delete it.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last updated" date. Continued use of StepSolvers after changes constitutes acceptance of the new policy.
